Creating a neighbourhood bar in a five-star location
Silver Lyan was the first venue in North America to carry the Mr Lyan brand. Located in Riggs Hotel, Washington DC - an institution and one of the most storied buildings in the city (Abe Lincoln kept his gold in the bank which was the building’s previous tenant).
It represented a new challenge for the team: translating our well-honed formula to a new market with strikingly different characteristics to Europe. Attitudes to luxury, drinking culture, labour models and law, supply chain dynamics - all had to be relearned and re-imagined.
After an intense period of immersion and research within the local F&B ecosystem, the team landed on the bar concept, drawing on the incredible depth of DC culture, food, drink and history, celebrating the notion of exchange – as well as a damn good time.
Silver Lyan has been a roaring success for the hotel, picking up Best New US Bar (2020) and Best Hotel Bar (2022) at Tales of the Cocktail, elevating the profile of the hotel locally and with visitors.
Commercially, it outperforms all other F&B concessions within the hotel, proving that highly complex, world-class drinks can still be delivered consistently, and at a profit.
